We all accept that powerboat racing is not a very eco-friendly sport, however, we also recognise that by offsetting our carbon emissions, we can achieve a balance between enjoying our sport and managing our co2 output by targeted investment in various projects both here in the UK and across the African continent.

Even though Offshore Marathon Powerboat Racing is set to take off in 2009 and beyond, Team 25 Racing believe our impact on the environment can be managed in a responsible way by offsetting our carbon emissions through co2balance.

Co2balance help us minimise the impact by offsetting the unavoidable CO2 residue by investing funds in projects that absorb or prevent the release of a tonnage of CO2 (carbon dioxide) equivalent to our Carbon Footprint.

Co2balance is unlike any other provider of Voluntary Carbon Offsets, managing the vast majority of its VER projects in-house. They operate the highest additionality test in the world to ensure that our funds really make a difference. They offer offsets by way of the purchase and cancellation of EU Emissions Allowances in accordance with the draft Code of Best Practice recently issued by the UK Government.

It is now very clear that human activities are causing the global climate to warm with potentially dangerous consequences. It is incumbent on all of us to reduce our emissions of greenhouse gases. However, it is equally clear that it is not going to be possible for us to eliminate entirely our carbon footprint. Carbon offsetting exists as a means to enable us to do something about our residual carbon footprints rather than just ignoring them. This way we can still enjoy our sport whilst reducing its impact on our world.

Over the course of an average race (200 miles) we produce just over 0.19 tonnes of Co2. Our investment needed to offset this is between £2.50 and £3.34 depending on which project we choose to invest in.
